After a hard day of fabulous racing, there are 11 happy guys in Québec and one in New Hampshire. We just finished the first edition of «Les 12 heures de Québec», and Dickie was here with us as representative of our great friends from the south. And it was a blast! We laughed all day, raced hard all day and had as much fun as 12 guys can have in a day.

IROC-style, SCX NASCARs, 4 teams of 3 drivers each, 2 tracks, 8 heats of 75 minutes each (one on each lane), live marshalling, driver changes during racing. The only break in the racing was when we switched tracks. Until the last heat, it was impossible to say which team would win. In total, we ran more than 17648 laps, over 400 km (250 miles), from 9AM to 9PM.

Next year, we are seriously thinking about doing «Les 24 heures de Québec», with 4 teams of 4 drivers each.

I should be thanking you for inviting me to come up! I had a great time! Even though there were times I couldn't understand what was being said, I knew it was all for fun by the way everyone would laugh afterwards. All the guys seem to be very friendly, and most definately an excellent and fun group of guys. And they can race very good as well. I'll even go so far as to say that it's quite possible that Team Quebec just might even win the NEC trophy in September

Again, thanks to you and Georges for inviting me up, and for translating for me some things for me. And to Georges and Lise for allowing me to stay late while I waited for my ride...

If I could go back up next weekend, I would, but Kevin wouldn't be too happy if his track didn't get worked on for another week...

During the day, every time a joke was told and every time we laughed hard (and God knows there were A LOT of these moments in the 12 hours we were together), a big part of me was willing to always translate it for you. But sometimes they were inside jokes, sometimes they were things that just couldn't be translated in another language and sometimes I had to concentrate on my driving (25 minutes straight gets to you!).

I'm really sorry you couldn't understand all that was said.

But I can tell you one thing. Everyone who didn't already know you was impressed with your driving skills. To score 2 best times out of 8 lanes (Georges had 4, I had 2), and one of these on a track you never saw before, requires an enormous driving talent. And you got it. And even those that knew you were that good were impressed with the speed at which you adapted to Georges' track's very different rythm.

But all that crap (!) about best lap times and winning teams is nothing compared to the fun and the friendships that this hobby has brought to all of us.

That being said, the NEC trophy is ours when September comes!!! Don't even have a doubt about it.

Thanks for the french translation Rob. You guys will someday be fluent in French if you continue to hang out with us. But then, we'll have to be careful of what we're saying about you when you're around...

It was indeed a fantastic event, and easier than what I thought before it began. Next year, we'll go from 12 to 24 hours. Instead of 3 drivers per team, we'll have to go to 4, one of which will be able to sleep. The only difference from the 12-hour event will be that we'll need a quiet room where we'll put 4 or 5 mattresses on the floor to get some rest between driving turns. Instead of 8 x 75-minute heats, we'll have 8 x 165-minute heats, for 22 full hours of timed racing, 5.5 hours per driver (!).

We are thinking of using SCX GT cars for this event. There's a good variety of models, they're not expensive (we will need 2 cars per lane, just in case) and they're built tough and are fairly easy to tune for getting them pretty equal.

The wheels are turning, we still have a full year to think about it.
