So, I made a few calls last night to find something that was not too expensive, pretty close to where the track action will be and at the same time close to the city if you want to play the tourist game (and I hope you will) during your stay in Québec.
The so-called discount hotels (Comfort Inn, etc.) are not so accomodating for blocking a number of rooms in advance and the rates were higher than what I found with the last call I made. The Québec 2008 festivities look like they will mean big business for the hotels and they're cashing in already.
I'm waiting for the written contract but I have blocked a number of rooms at Htel Ambassadeur with double beds at the rate of 109$. With taxes, it goes up to 123,03$/night. I know it's higher than the rates we usually see at other NEC or NEEC events but we're in a larger city, it's a very touristic place and it's in the middle of a big celebration for 2008. High season is from beginning of May to the end of October in Québec City. I got a nice discount on the normal rates.
I told the hotel that people would sleep there at least on Friday night, and some would do also on Thursday and Saturday night. Some of you could also stay there a whole week if you combine NEC 13 with your vacation.
As soon as I have signed the contract, I will tell you and you can start making reservations if you want. The rooms will be blocked until July 25th (this was the shortest notice I could get anywhere I called!).
Here's a map of the location of the tracks relative to the hotel.
